Sea Drifter Travels

We hopped aboard the Sea Drifter on Tuesday, June 11 after a whirlwind unpack and repack from our trip to Nova Scotia for Dad’s funeral. The Drifter is a beautiful boat ... 55' of luxury! There's a washer and dryer on board ... a dishwasher .... a desalination unit to make fresh water .... an ice maker (no, I'm NOT kidding).Oh ... and the best part ... two of the nicest human beings you'd want to meet ... our good friends, Doug and Jan.

I painted this picture of the Sea Drifter with the "little" boat, The Bluebird, beside her. Just so you know what she REALLY looks like, I've also put this actual photo in.

We spent the afternoon squaring our stuff away, realizing that we didn't bring near enough warm clothing. Jan was cooking up a wonderful cabbage, rice,  and sausage soup for our lunch.

Khore and Jess will pick up our car and take it up to their place in Port Hardy for us to pick up when we return by BC Ferries. Many thanks to them both for helping us make this a stress-free trip!

Our stateroom included a walk-around queen sized bed, an ensuite "head" with a wonderful shower, a couple of portholes and a skylight!. Lighted closets topped the whole thing off. Just outside our room was the washer and dryer. Better than any hotel room I've ever stayed at!
On June 12, we anchored in Allison Harbour and fished in the afternoon but only managed to get a small Rock Cod. The anchorage here is quite beautiful with the ability to see amazing sunsets through a small cut.

We did, however, get to go through Nakwakta Rapids and on up to Tremble Island on an absolute slack tide. The video below shows just how violent the waters are even on slack! I believe Doug when he says that you just don't want to go through here on anything else.
